Prof. Michael Kornaros received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering (1989) and Ph.D. in Biochemical Engineering and Environmental Technology (1995) both at the University of Patras.

He is the Head of the Laboratory of Biochemical Engineering and Environmental Technology (LBEET) in the Department of Chemical Engineering at UPatras. Prof. Kornaros is the author of more than 60 scientific papers in peer-reviewed professional journals (Web of Science h-index: 21), several book chapters and more than 110 international conference proceedings. He is an active reviewer in more than 30 international journals and conference proceedings. He has extensive expertise in co-ordination and participation in European and Cross-Border projects (more than 50 in the last 15 years and more than 3 mil euros in funding for LBEET). Successfully completed projects include: INTEGRASTE, MISSTOW, Bio-SURFEST, AGROENERGY, SWAM, GoW, POPULAR amongst others. His main research interests are organic wastes valorization for production of bio-based compounds and biosurfactants, anaerobic fermentation, exploitation of algae, agroindustrial wastes and wastewaters for liquid and gaseous biofuels production and modeling of biological processes.
